STUDENTS at the University of Limpopo (formally known as Medunsa) yesterday drove staff members out of campus because they want alternative accommodation for needy students

Students have not attended lectures since last week Wednesday.

University spokesperson Daphney Kgwebane said: "The University already accommodates 75 percent of the students.

"We can only accommodate students on the availability of resources as the core function of the university is teaching and learning."

SRC president Tiisetso Ntsie said it would be insensible to return to class before a solution is found.

"We acknowledge that the university cannot house all students," said Ntsie. "There was a student complex that housed 250 to 280 students but it was closed for renovations. We want management to find alternative accommodation which will be under university control.

"Our programming demands that we be in campus because we sometimes have to be in hospital at night."

He said they held several meetings with management but they have reached a deadlock.
