FORMER orthopaedic surgeon Johannes Volsteedt was sentenced to eight years in prison for rape and other sex offences
The was tried in the Bellville regional court, SABC News reports.
Volsteedt had made several appearances for sentencing since his conviction in March.
The 64-year-old was sentenced for raping one of his female patients in his Bellville surgery, and on 14 counts of indecently assaulting nine other women patients.
Magistrate André le Grange refused to give Volsteedt a non-custodial sentence such as house arrest.
