Aspiring police officers will now have to train for two years, instead of the traditional one-year training period
National police Commissioner Bheki Cele said this in Pretoria on Monday.
Historically officers would train for six months at a police college and have another six months field training.
Cele said officers would now have to spend one year at a police college and another year undergoing field training.
He also announced that communities would become more involved in the recruitment of officers.
