THE Molemole municipality in Limpopo has fired two of its senior officials for bringing its name into disrepute.

Monica Mogakane, senior committee researcher, and Grace Molalathoko, council support officer, were fired last week by the municipal manager Ike Tjebane. They were dismissed for allegedly circulating a damning report implicating some senior municipal officials in tenders fraud.

The implicated officials had continued to draw their monthly salaries of nearly R45000 for the past 13 months while on suspension.

They were suspended on October 19 last year until they were shown the door on Friday.

This was two weeks after the Democratic Alliance accused management of spending a fortune on their salaries while on suspension. Soon after Molalathoko and Mogakane were suspended, the municipality launched an internal probe, which revealed that the two were responsible for the circulation of the damning report.

Municipality spokesperson Timothy Molopa said the officials were served with dismissal letters on Friday.

He said the municipality would soon advertise their positions.
