CHICAGO - Hot-tempered Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano has been put on the restricted list and will be required to undergo treatment for anger issues, the team said on its website yesterday.

Zambrano was suspended by the Cubs when he lost his temper in a game against the Chicago White Sox on Friday. The pitcher yelled as he left the field and had a shouting match with teammate Derrek Lee.

The move to the restricted list means Zambrano will be paid but will not return until after the All-Star Game on July 13.

The 29-year-old is in the middle of a five-year, $91million (R688million) contract but has a history of temper issues, including a dugout fight with a teammate in 2007.

He is 3-6 with a 5,66 ERA (earned run average) in 22 games this season, including nine starts. - Reuters
