LUANDA - Former Angola national coach Mabi de Almeida died on Sunday at the age of 46, Angola's soccer federation said yesterday.

De Almeida was sacked last year as head coach just seven months into his job after they failed to qualify for the World Cup finals to be staged in South Africa. He went on to coach Benfica de Luanda and then became head coach of Recreativo da Caala in Huambo.

De Almeida was taken to hospital during a Recreativo da Caala training session on Saturday. He died the next day.

Local media reports cited heart failure as the cause of death. - Reuters
