THE uGu district municipality on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast will roll out the red carpet for Algeria's Desert Foxes on Saturday.

Algeria's national team chose the coastal region as their base camp for the World Cup.

The festivities will commence with the opening of the newly constructed, state-of-the-art sports and leisure complex in Gamalakhe, which the Algerian team will use as their training venue.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Zweli Mkhize, cooperative governance and traditional affairs MEC Nomusa Dube, uGu district mayor S'thembiso Cele and representatives of the Algerian embassy and the Algerian Football Association are among the dignitaries expected to attend the event.

Thousands of excited uGu residents are expected to don the green and white of Algeria's national team in a demonstration of support for their adopted team.

Dube said: "The new facility is the pride of uGu district, which is one of the regions that previously lacked quality infrastructure."
