An additional 42million condoms will be available in the country for the duration of the soccer spectacle, thanks to the UK, which felt the host country needed support in intensifying HIV prevention during the World Cup.

British minister for international development Gareth Thomas made the announcement on Tuesday.

More than 500000 soccer fans are expected on our shores for the World Cup. Much has been said about the country's HIV prevalence and its common predicament of running out of condoms.

But the Department of Health has given the assurance that this will not happen this time around.
