WHILE two of the country's 2007 Word Cup players are back in the netball national team, former captain Nthabiseng Moabi is also making a return after a two-year sabbatical from the game.
Centre-court player Moabi - who represents Gauteng South at provincial level - is known for her skilful, entertaining and daring play, which has been conspicuous by its absence from the team.
"Getting back feels really good. The netball court is where I belong and the last two years while I took a break were surreal," Moabi said.
"But I want to retain my form as a top athlete and maintain my place in the team. I realise how much I craved the competitiveness."
Shooters Christine Markgraaff and Cindy Gumede both returned to the squad after several years, while centre-court player Mudi Mungenga, who was a star member of the South African Under-21 squad at the World Youth Championships in the Cook Islands last year, also got the nod.
The squad will take part in another training camp next month where a 12-member team will be named.
The squad:
Zukelwa Cwaba, Christine Markgraaff, Liezel Wium, Precious Mthembu, Maryke Holtzhausen, Nthabiseng Moabi, Sindisiwe (Cindy) Gumede, Elzet Engelbrecht, Erin Burger, Amanda Mynhardt, Leigh-Ann Zackey,
Zanele Mdodane, Claudia Basson, Chrisna Bootha, Nthabiseng Moabi and Precious Mthembu.
