Speaking on Zuma's behalf, spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said the president was saddened by developments between Safa and dissenting regions, which could result in an explosive court case, only a few months before the country hosts the World Cup.
"The president would like to repeat his plea of magnanimity and humility to the leadership of Safa. Focus should be directed at hosting the best World Cup event ever," said Kodwa.
Sowetan reported last week that Safa had summoned members known to be Irvin Khoza loyalists, to a disciplinary hearing scheduled for February 6 and February 7.
" It is not for the president to endorse or reject the current leadership, or to interfere in the administration of football, but we also note that there is a responsibility to build unity," he said.
