A COURT order has been granted against union members committing any violence while on strike at Amalgamated Beverage Industries, the company said yesterday.

"The labour court in Johannesburg has ordered the Food and Allied Workers' Union (Fawu) and its members to refrain from committing any acts of violence and criminal conduct during the strike," the company said in a statement.

ABI managing director John Ustas said the court order had become necessary as various acts of violence and intimidation had been reported since just under 1000 workers went on strike on December 22.

Fawu is calling for a 9,5percent wage increase, while ABI has made a wage and benefits offer of 8,3percent

On Tuesday, Ustas said ABI would stand firm on its current offer. "We are firm in our belief that our offer is both very fair and reasonable." - Sapa
