THE Mpumalanga department of education has instructed a teacher - who was threatened by pupils who failed last year's exams - to return to school.
This follows a meeting between the teacher, Julia Moseamo, local circuit education authorities, police and the school governing body on Monday.
Moseamo, a Grade 11 teacher at Sehlakabje Secondary School in Acornhoek, had complained that it would be "too unbearable" to face the boys who intimidated her.
"I don't feel safe because I'm going to meet these boys at the school when they return tomorrow (Wednesday)."
However, she said she did not think staying away was a solution to her problem. She said she would force herself to go to school with the hope that the schoolboys would behave around her.
"I feel frustrated and very scared. On the other hand the police have not yet arrested the boys despite a case having been opened last year," Moseamo said.
She told Sowetan that a group of boys who had failed in her class confronted her shortly after they received their school reports.
They apparently told her to make sure she changed their marks to reflect a pass - or she would return to her home village in Limpopo in a coffin. Moseamo is from Botlokwa village near Polokwane.
Provincial education department spokesperson Jasper Zwane said departmental officials would have spoken to the parents of the unruly boys to call them to order.
