A MAN who has been breaking into houses in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, since July, was arrested, police said.

Inspector Moses Maphakela said the man, 28, was caught in the garden of a Hyde Park house around 5.30am yesterday.

"The owners raised the alarm and the police caught him in the garden. He had a stolen laptop and jewellery on him."

Maphakela said the man and two accomplices had broken into four houses early yesterday morning.

The two other suspects got away.

The arrested man had been linked to 12 other housebreaking cases in the area.

"We are investigating whether there are more," Maphakela said.

He would appear in the Randburg magistrate's court after the police finalised their investigation.

He was being detained by the Bramley police.
