SENSATIONAL hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp has reunited after three years of pursuing personal ambitions and musical explorations.
On Tuesday the group launched its first album in three years and this time around they are doing it independent of a major recording company. Previously they were signed to Gallo, which lured them to the stable after they had recorded successful albums independently.
Now they are back where they started.
The 12-track album - Fair and Skwear - taps deep into their original sound while also exploring new ground with a mature sound. According to the group this is a reflection of personal growth.
"This is a new, mature Skwatta Kamp that has grown since we last recorded three years ago. We have since grown as individuals and as a group, and this growth is reflected in this new sound," said Siyabonga "Slikour" Metane.
Conspicuous by her absence was female vocalist Lelo Boyanan who does not feature on the new CD.
"She was never part of the group in the first place," Metane said. "We only featured her once, and that is all."
Skwatta Kamp's two prominent members, Metane and Sugarsmax, have been pursuing solo careers for the past three years.
