THE Soweto Mushroom Festival runs from tomorrow until Sunday, once again giving people an opportunity to savour the best mushrooms.
Soweto's hottest restaurants, bed-and-breakfast establishments, pubs and catering companies are taking part and will feature a host of wonderful mushroom dishes on their menus.
South African Mushroom Association chairman Ross Richardson says restaurants and bed and breakfasts are proliferating in Soweto and there is a lot of enthusiasm for this foodie event.
"It is inspiring to see local eateries happily creating authentic African mushroom recipes, that are brand new yet familiar through the inclusion of traditional ingredients. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Soweto," Richardson says.
All the participating establishments will have different mushroom dishes on their menus. On Saturday from noon until 3pm, independent chefs will cook seven different mushroom dishes at Maponya Mall at the Pick n Pay court.
Fifty mall visitors will have the opportunity to taste the delicious dishes. Shoppers also stand a chance to win Pick n Pay vouchers as well as goodies from the Soweto Mushroom organisers. Participating establishments include:
