THE police officer who allegedly kidnapped and killed a man who was having an affair with his live-in lover was denied bail by the Lehurutshe magistrate's court yesterday.
Constable Walter Motsweri of the Luhurutshe police station in Zeerust, North West, was arrested after a decomposed body of Poposi Taffa was discovered under a low-lying bridge last month. Taffa had been missing for more than two weeks.
The two men were allegedly dating school teacher and sangoma Keabetswe Tlhaole, who has since turned state witness.
Taffa was allegedly last seen alive at Lehurutshe police station being dragged by Motsweri while handcuffed. Motsweri allegedly took Taffa out of the police station and killed him.
The magistrate said Motsweri, as a police officer, would still be able to access dockets and interfere with the case if given bail.
He also noted that the state witness was his live-in lover.
Taffa's brother Tsepiso said: "As a family, we are happy that he was not given bail."
The case was postponed to February 25 next year.
