A SENIOR Polokwane municipal official has been admitted to a private hospital after being involved in an accident while allegedly fleeing from angry community members.

Matlala Maremane, head of housing in the municipality, first struck down a pedestrian, who received minor injuries, before fleeing. He had been attending a branch meeting at Waterland onSunday.

A source told Sowetan yesterday that Maremane wanted branch members to nominate Stan Motimele, the former MEC for roads and transport, to become the Capricorn district chairperson, but the members objected.

In a fit of anger Maremane then drove off, but suffered injuries when he allegedly crashed his car into that belonging to Capricorn district secretary Jacob Lebogo.
