THE National Executive Committee of the IFP has called on its members to "stop jumping the gun" by nominating individuals for the position of party president.
Deputy general secretary Themba Msimang, pictured, said yesterday that they have taken note of reports that IFP members and the public were speculating on and proposing names for nomination.
"The IFP is guided by its constitution which stipulates clearly how nominations for this position are made," he said.
Msimang said once the date of the IFP's elective conference is announced, the NEC will advise members and all party structures on the process to follow to nominate candidates for leadership positions.
On Sunday, former IFP national chairperson Lionel Mtshali publicly endorsed Musa Zondi to take over from president Mangosuthu Buthelezi during a rally in Ulundi.
Mtshali said he did not know any other person, than Zondi who can lead the party.
Meanwhile, IFP national chairperson Zanele Magwaza-Msibi said once the inauguration of branches had been completed by next month, an assessment review would be done and a date for the conference will then be set.
