NORTH West farmer Dawie Swart, who allegedly shot and wounded four people he "thought were stealing oranges", appeared briefly in the Brits magistrate's court yesterday.

NORTH West farmer Dawie Swart, who allegedly shot and wounded four people he "thought were stealing oranges", appeared briefly in the Brits magistrate's court yesterday.

Swart was appearing on four counts of attempted murder. His case was transferred to the Brits regional court to be heard on November 26.

The four who were shot were on their way from a football match to a shop on Swart's farm when the shooting took place.

A small group of members of Cosatu and the ANC Women's League protested outside the court during Swart's appearance.

The suspect' s bail of R7000 was extended until November 26. - Sapa
