TWO people died and 18 were injured in accidents on KwaZulu-Natal roads yesterday, emergency services said.

"On the N3 near Mariannhill Toll Plaza in Durban, a taxi rear-ended an 18-wheeler truck. Five people sustained serious injuries and eight had minor injuries," said Netcare spokesperson Chris Botha.

In another accident in the Durban CBD, a 28-year-old woman died at the intersection of Somtseu Road and Stanger Street.

"A Toyota with two occupants was hit on the side by a Mercedes-Benz, and the 28-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Toyota vehicle, tragically died on impact.

"The two drivers sustained minor injuries," he said.

On the M19 near Blair Atholl Road, a bakkie overturned, seriously injuring its two occupants.

They were taken to St Augustine's Hospital.

In another accident on the N2 South near Sibaya Casino, a pedestrian died after he was hit by a motorbike .

"The pedestrian died on the scene due to the severity of his injuries, while the motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and was transported to Umhlanga Hospital," said Botha.

On Monday, seven people were killed and 17 were injured in accidents on KwaZulu-Natal roads. - Sapa
