TWENTY20 cricket star Luke Pomersbach was suspended by Western Australia yesterday after he was charged with assaulting a policeman following a drink-fuelled double hit-and-run.

The talented batsman, who made his Twenty20 debut for Australia in 2007 and also plays in the Indian Premier League, is accused of resisting arrest and fleeing into nearby sand dunes, where he was tracked down by a sniffer dog.

Western Australia said Pomersbach had been suspended from training until at least Friday, when he is due to appear in court.

Pomersbach is accused of pushing a policeman into a window at his Perth home, breaking glass and causing minor injuries, as he resisted arrest.

Police say they followed a trail of oil to Pomersbach's house after his Toyota 4x4 hit a car, ploughed into a loaded skip minutes later and smashed into the pergola of a nearby house. - Sapa-AFP
