A ROBBER was locked up in a Tembisa supermarket yesterday when the shop owner's quick-thinking brother saw "something unusual", East Rand police said.

Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha said two men pretending to be customers had entered the Ven supermarket in Rabie Ridge at 6.30am.

The shop owner was inside and his brother outside.

"When the brother could not see his brother behind the counter he knew something was wrong," said Ralidzhivha.

"When he tried to open the door he saw a man with a gun."

The brother locked the store and ran to the police station, where he alerted the police.

The police found a 35-year-old man locked up in the store.

It was not clear what had happened to the second would-be robber.

The suspect is due to appear in the Tembisa magistrate's court soon. - Sapa
