IN THE past week South Africa woke up with the news that President Jacob Zuma has suggested a working relationship in KwaZulu-Natal between the ANC and IFP.

One wonders whether the president has issued this statement to please the rapidly fading IFP or is "just saying it".

It is an open secret that the IFP and ANC have not had a smooth working relationship in that province.

So, is this a real collaboration or just wishful thinking on the part of the ruling party?

I view this gesture as a sign of a step towards shared governance between the two parties, provided they settle their differences and start trusting each other.
