MUSIC blaring and props to match their personalities, actors producers, writers and crew members yesterday threatened to stop filming local television shows if the SABC failed to meet their demands.

The group gathered at the Atlas Studios in Milpark, Johannesburg, to protest against what they said was the mismanagement of the SABC.

The Young Communist League of South Africa said: "The current SABC board has plunged the SABC into a situation in which its very survival is threatened, lurching from one crisis to the next since its appointment two years ago."

They further stated that the SABC was in the red to the tune of R2billion and was losing R200million a month.

Trompies star Eugene Mthethwa said: "The SABC owes me a lot of money and if they do not pay up they will have no choice but to air reruns."

Kgomotso Matsunyane, a representative of the Television Industry Emergency Committee, said the group was formed specifically to deal with outstanding payments.

"Our goal is to force the current SABC board of directors to resign."

Fana Mokoena, who plays the role of Mandla in Generations, said: "Some of our shows were aired in Jamaica and the US, yet we were not compensated for this."
