Alec was tracking three men who had broken into a holiday house in Pennington and stole the belongings of tourists.
A holiday-maker, Yovesh Ramcharan, 29, from Pietermaritzburg, had rented a holiday house in the area and contacted police when he realised that the home had been burgled at the weekend.
The dog tackled one of the men who was arrested. The second suspect repeatedly stabbed the dog but it clung onto him until his handler called him off and arrested the man. A third suspect escaped. - Mhlaba Memela
