Southern African nations yesterday condemned a military takeover in Madagascar, shortly after the opening of a summit to discuss the conflict.

Swaziland King Mswati III, who chairs the Southern African Development Community's security troika, said the takeover was unconstitutional and "violates basic principles, protocols and treaties".

Mswati was speaking in Mbabane where the regional leaders are "to deliberate on the best way forward" for the troubled island. - Sapa-AFP
