As the nation celebrated Human Rights Day at the weekend, Aganang municipal mayor Mmanoko Masehela was being lambasted for unimpressive service delivery.

Rural residents bemoaned the snail's pace of service delivery during the state of the municipality address on Saturday and Sunday. Scores of villagers from the Moletji and Matlala areas in Limpopo attended.

They vented their displeasure over the lack of electricity infrastructure, water supply, bad roads and alleged politically motivated bias in the distribution of food parcels. Although Masehela tried to appease them, most of the villagers were not convinced.

A villager, Isaac Mojela, said: "Little has been done since we were promised free basic electricity. We were very excited when we were told about this, but it turned out to be a pipe dream ."

Masehela said the municipality needed R29million for the electricity project. "Plans are afoot to remedy the electricity crisis. We are working in tandem with Eskom to ensure that our electricity projects are run properly and swiftly," she said.
