Convicted murderer Jacob Roedolf Combrink will turn to the Pretoria high court to appeal against a 15-year jail sentence handed down to him by the Middleburg circuit court yesterday.

In 2005, Combrink, a farmer in Mpumalanga, was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment, five of which were suspended for five years. He would effectively serve 10 years. He was convicted of the murder of his employee, Benjamin Johannes Ngwenya.

Combrink shot and killed Ngwenya at his farm in Belfast. The court heard that Combrink had a fight with Ngwenya in the morning before the shooting took place.

His lawyer, advocate Ben Bredekamp, said: " He never meant to kill the deceased. The second shot that hit Ngwenya first hit a wire and went to him. It was not a direct intention."
