The SA Transport and Allied Workers Union says it will bring the economy to a halt next month when members down tools.

The employees, who include light and heavy duty vehicle drivers, artisans, forklift drivers and loaders are to down tools on March 15.

"The impact will be felt in the cash in transit, furniture removals and general transportation of goods, fuel, medical supplies and many others," said Satawu secretary general Randall Howard.

Satawu and three other unions declared a wage dispute last month. Satawu demands the reduction of the "long working hours, maternity leave for women and a job guarantee when they come back".
