A horse and trailer transporting live pigs overturned yesterday on the R21 near Tembisa, east of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni metro police said.
"The pigs were strewn all over the place and quite a few died," said Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng.
"The vehicle was travelling from Limpopo and overturned as a result of a mechanical problem," Mokheseng said.
The driver and his passenger were not injured.
