The VIP protection unit officer for KwaZulu-Natal MEC Meshack Radebe, who is facing eight counts of attempted murder, was denied bail by the Camperdown magistrate's court yesterday.
Magistrate Thys Taaljaard denied the accused, constable Hlanganani Nxumalo, pictured, bail and postponed the case to December 11 for further investigation.
Nxumalo, 28, allegedly shot the tyre of a Mazda on the N3 near Camperdown on Saturday, causing an accident that injuring eight people. Investigating officer Jerome Mngadi said according to the driver of the VW Golf in which Nxumalo was a passenger, they were rushing to meet Radebe at his home near Durban. Mngadi said the victims said giving the accused bail would be a threat to their safety.
