A young woman was raped by an armed man in the women's public toilets at a popular supermarket in Middelburg.
The 20-year-old was raped by a man armed with a knife and a handgun at the Pick n Pay supermarket on Monday afternoon.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the woman went to the toilets at about 1:30pm and while she was inside a man, armed with a knife and a gun, entered and closed the door.
"He undressed her, fondled and kissed her breasts before raping her. He then robbed her of her cellphone before fleeing, leaving her inside the toilet," said Khoabane.
He warned women not to visit public toilets unaccompanied.
He said no arrest had been made and police investigations were continuing.
