Nwanati High School in Malamulele, Limpopo, has received a major boost after former pupils decided to plough back into their school.
Former pupils have come together to plough back their knowledge and skills.
They have also pledged to buy school uniforms for poor pupils.
They formed the Nwanati High Alumni Association at the weekend.
"We have decided to come together and make a difference to our alma mater," association spokesman Aubrey Maluleke said.
He said they had committed themselves to bringing the culture of learning and teaching back to the school.
"We have also set out to assist with career advice programmes and mentorship.
"And we have decided to raise funds to support and expand the school's resources for the benefit of both present and future pupils."
Former pupil Richard Chauke, now a senior researcher and academic at the University of Limpopo, gave a motivational speech to the school's pupils.
Chauke said: "Qunu in Eastern Cape is now a tourist attraction because of former president Nelson Mandela.
"Now it is time for us to make Nwanati High more famous."
Former pupils and metallurgical engineers Rodgers Chauke and Witness Makamu are also part of the new association.
Sacky Maluleke of the University of Johannesburg also addressed the pupils.
Deputy principal Tryphosa Nukeri said exciting times lay ahead for the school because of the involvement of its former pupils.
