Two pedestrians crossing a freeway near Stanger in Durban died after being hit by a car, paramedics said.

Joseph Kruger, spokesman for Mounties Ambulance Service, said the incident took place on the N2 north-bound freeway between Gingindlovu and Stanger on Saturday night.

"The two men were crossing the freeway when a car hit them.

One pedestrian's head was decapitated and the other had his foot severed," said Kruger.

The two died at the scene while a passenger in the vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries. - Sapa
