The "People's Poet", Mzwakhe Mbuli, was granted bail of R2000 and warned not to make any contact with state witnesse.
Mbuli faced charges of kidnapping, assault and pointing a firearm in the Germiston magistrate's court yesterday.
He allegedly kidnapped, assaulted and pointed a firearm at a Leondale businessman, Philemon Masike, and his assistant, Maki Matsepo.
This was after he had allegedly questioned the pair about the killing of his uncle, Mandla Mbuli.
The court heard that Mbuli intended pleading not guilty to all the charges.
In his affidavit, read by Advocate Jerry Koma on his behalf, he admitted he had a previous conviction for armed robbery and no pending cases.
Mbuli's defence requested that he be granted bail as he was busy with a project for former president Nelson Mandela's birthday, and that the deadline was in two weeks' time.
The case was postponed to July 16.
