A man whose tongue was allegedly bitten off by his victim when he raped her faces more charges after being identified as a suspect in other cases.

Police said yesterday a warrant of arrest was issued against Jabulani Magagula, of Barberton in Mpumalanga, who had failed to appear in court in October last year when he faced charges of housebreaking and robbery. Now Magagula, 36, will have to answer the other charges when his case resumes on June 2.

Struggling to speak in court yesterday, Magagula appeared relaxed and told the court that he had been ill for two years and that was why he could not attend the court case.

The rape case was postponed to next month for a bail application.

Magagula was arrested on Sunday after police asked members of the community to be on the look-out for a man with a piece of his tongue missing.

This was after a local woman came to the police with a piece of a human tongue she claimed to have bitten off a man who had raped her last week.

The victim said Magagula had kissed her during the rape. She bit part of the tongue off when she pretended to cooperate.
