Four workers have received R790000 in backpay owed to them by the Ehlanzeni district municipality for the past four years, the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) said yesterday.

Samwu branch organiser Dovhani Tshilande said the men had performed the same job for four years, but that a R6000 wage gap had existed between the highest and lowest paid worker.

The four workers were employed by the health service sector to clean up hazardous environmental waste in municipalities. - Sapa
