An ANC councillor in KwaZulu-Natal's Umzumbe Municipality was shot and killed at his home on Tuesday night, police said yesterday.

Police spokesman Superintendent Zandra Hechter said Bheki Dlamini, 46, and his wife were at their Hlokozi home on the South Coast when two gunmen entered their home at 7pm.

"They opened fire and Dlamini was shot eight times ... he died at the scene," said Hechter. His wife was hit in the pelvis and was taken to a Durban hospital.

Police said the motive was not known and no arrests had been made. -Sapa
