Busi Mhlongo gave her fans what they had been longing for since her last live performance in June.

The world-acclaimed Mhlongo was being honoured at the Vuka Sizwe Green Project concert in Newtown, Johannesburg, on Sunday.

Top local musicians gave thrilling performances in her honour.

President Thabo Mbeki, his wife Zanele and other dignitaries were also there to wish her a happy 60th birthday.

Mhlongo, who is battling breast cancer, later did what her fans had expected of her - wowing them by singing her heart out, her powerful voice echoing through the venue as she sang her wellknown hits.

The crowd went mad when Mhlongo, Simphiwe Dana and Sibongile Khumalo did a pulsating rendition of her hit song Yise Wabantw'a Bam.

DJ Black Coffee later took over for an after-party, spinning the disks until midnight.
