The Madlala family has been waiting for the last six months for a R15000 prize that their late mother had won.

Pinkie Madlala was awarded the Trade and Industry Department's (DTI) Individual Consumer Champion in March.

She was honoured for protecting consumers against unfair business practice, abuse and danger, and helping to improve their lives.

The awards were managed by Two-Tone, who were meant to pay the winner once the DTI paid the money to the company. The DTI had paid the company.

Some winners said that Two-Tone paid them only after they threatened to expose it in the media.

In July, Two-Tone acknowledged receipt of payment and undertook to pay the Madlala's, but they have not done so.

The department found it disturbing that Two-Tone had not honoured the payment to Madlala's estate.

The department has undertaken to investigate the matter.

Two-Tone has not responded to Consumer Line's queries about the allegations since last Friday.
