Two police officers were among six people arrested on Wednesday for a robbery in Swayimane near Wartburg, KwaZulul-Natal.

Robbers struck when a group of people were about to divide their stokvel savings.

Police spokesman Inspector Joey Jeevan said that three people were shot and a large undisclosed sum of money was taken.

"Six suspects, aged 22 to 27, were arrested and four firearms were confiscated.

"A large sum of money was recovered," she said.

Jeevan said investigations revealed that the confiscated Z88 pistols belonged to police officers and the getaway vehicle was hijacked last week in Pietermaritzburg. - Canaan Mdletshe
