Two men from North West died in a car collision on the Ventersdorp-Potchefstroom road on Wednesday.
Spokesman Captain Emmanuel Reetsang said that when police arrived at the scene they found the men trapped in their badly damaged cars.
"Our rescue team had to pull them out of their cars but it was too late," he said.
One man died at the scene and the other died later at Potchefstroom Hospital.
Reetsang said a case of culpable homicide had been opened.
