Two policemen were shot and killed while responding to a burglary in Cape Town yesterday.
Inspector Martin van der Heyde, 42, and student Constable Johnny Botha, 30, had noticed a window of a Crawford house had been broken.
Inside the house Van der Heyde was overpowered and his service pistol taken by a burglar. He was then shot several times. The burglar then shot Botha in the head.
The man took both pistols and the police vehicle. - Sapa
