An independent African church, the Tyrannus Apostolic Church, has made its presence felt in ecclesiastical circles.

The church, which is based in QwaQwa, Free State, has existed for seven years and has 70000 members.

It hosted ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma at the Easter weekend.

The Tyrannus Apostolic Church has emerged on a scene that is already dominated by the Zion Christian Church, Shembe Church and the International Pentecost Church.

It has a branch in Soweto and is due to open a branch in Durban in June.

Apostle Tshitso Mokoena, leader of the church, describes it as the new home for African people because it preaches in their mother tongue.
