Champions-elect Free State Stars proved their superiority once more when they beat struggling Witbank Spurs 2-0 in a Mvela Golden League game in Bethlehem on Saturday.
Stars' boss, Mike Mokoena, said they will still treat the remaining matches like cup finals despite being 16 points clear from second-placed University of Pretoria.
Despite playing without the service of their reliable players, first choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and right back Cliff Hachilensa, Stars outperformed the Mpumalanga lot, especially in the first half before a fair crowd.
The duo are from Congo Brazzaville and had been called up for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Themba Sethole, Stars' caretaker coach, said: "The boys did not play according to instructions in the first half. We only regrouped in the second stage and went on to register a convincing win.''
His counterpart Steve "Disco" Makua, said: "We had our opponents under control in the opening minutes and controlled the first half. But, our defence committed silly mistakes in the second half and that allowed Stars to dictate terms with ease.''
Stars' goals came in the second half from captain Duncan Lechesa and Matome Madimabe.
