As I walked towards Constitution Hill on Human Rights Day, I noticed that many of the people singing liberation songs were wearing T-shirts with "Khutsong" printed on them. This reminded me of the gross violation of their rights at the hands of their leaders.

These people have been forcefully relocated in another province without consent and despite the constitutional clause that says consultation with the communities concerned was vital.

The ruling party has arrogantly violated citizens' rights in many respects.

The minister of home affairs, Nosiviwe Mapisa- Nqakula, above, should take note that the precursor to the fateful day (Sharpeville) was the issue of identity documents (dompas law).

She needs to get her department in good working condition and get rid of the inefficiencies and corruption taking place.
