A 35-year-old police officer appeared in the Mankweng magistrates' court yesterday on charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice, Limpopo police said.

Detective Inspector Obed Muroa was arrested on Monday for allegedly pocketing money that a man gave him to pay a fine, said Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba.

"He was given R1000, but failed to pay the man's fine. Instead, he later made an entry in the man's case docket that he could not be traced."

The irregularity was noticed when the case was allocated to another investigating officer.

Muroa's case was postponed to April 25, said Ramatseba. - Sapa
