Working, serving and worshipping are central to the Mormon belief. And believers live according to the tenets of their faith.

This became clear to me on my first day at Brigham Young University (BYU), which is sponsored by the church.

The 35 000-strong student body is made up mostly of students bound by four cardinal rules: they shun sex before marriage, drugs, alcohol and smoking.

The code also emphasises honesty, "living a chaste and virtuous life and using clean language".
