Health institutions are expected to provide medical help for the sick, not to maim or condemn them to death.

Last week we reported about a month-old baby, Nosipho Vilakazi, who was due to have her leg amputated after gross negligence by nurses at Witbank Hospital.

Another baby, Khensane Ngobeni, 11 months, had four fingers amputated at the Mapulaneng Hospital, again because of nursing negligence.

Emmanuel Boshielo of Wattville, Benoni, died after the hospital allegedly failed to arrange delivery of his oxygen on time. This is mind boggling.

These incidents are being investigated by the respective departments of health.

Nurses have taken an oath to help save lives at all costs.

They must adhere to that commitment.
