A cartel case against bread producers over alleged price-fixing in the Western Cape has been referred to the Competition Tribunal.

Tembinkosi Bonakele of the Competition Commission said major bakeries agreed on a simultaneous price increase in the week before Christmas.

A penalty of up to 10percent of the yearly turnover of Sasko, Duens and Albany Bakeries will be sought when prosecuting the case, he said. - Sapa
